Ceropegia simoneae is a semi-succulent plant native to the dry southern regions of Madagascar. The plant produces multiple main stems, along which small, thick leaves grow over their entire length. These robust leaves are perfectly adapted to dry conditions and help the plant retain moisture. Although the plant starts with a compact growth habit, its stems can become considerably longer over time. This makes Ceropegia simoneae highly versatile. With the help of a plant support or bamboo stakes, it can be trained as a climbing plant, while without support it develops beautifully as a trailing or hanging plant. One of the most remarkable features of this species is its flowers. Under favorable conditions, they appear during the summer months. The flowers are relatively large compared to the leaves and have a highly exotic appearance. The base of the flower forms a bowl-shaped structure topped by a narrow, cup-like crown. The white flowers are richly decorated with red to purple speckles, creating a striking and almost artistic look. Altogether, this plant is really unique and eccentric making it a true showpiece according to Araflora.
Ceropegia simoneae is an easy-care plant that requires little maintenance. Due to its origin in arid regions, it prefers a bright location with plenty of indirect sunlight. A few hours of direct sunlight per day are generally well tolerated. Water the plant moderately and allow the potting soil to dry out largely between waterings. Excess moisture can lead to root problems, while the plant tolerates dry periods very well thanks to its succulent-like leaves. It is recommended to use a well-draining potting mix suitable for succulents and semi-succulent plants. During the growing season, from spring until the end of summer, occasional fertilization can be applied to encourage healthy growth and flowering. In winter, the plant requires less water, and the soil may remain dry for longer periods. With proper care, Ceropegia simoneae develops into an extraordinary hanging or climbing plant with a unique appearance and impressive flowers that will enrich any plant collection.
