Utricularia bisquamata occurs naturally in Angola, Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa and Madagascar. The yellow spot in the middle of the flowers is slightly raised and has a deep purple edge, giving it a beautiful depth effect. The flowers usually grow in sets of two on sturdy light green stalks. The leaves are also light green and have an elongated shape. The bladder traps with which the Utriculoria bisquamata catches its prey are kept underground.
Utricularia bisquamata is easy to take care of and can be placed in a terrarium and on the windowsill, as long as it gets enough light. The temperature should be kept around 22⁰C, but not much higher to prevent dehydration. Thriving in humid conditions, this species should constantly be kept under a small layer of water. Mineral poor water like rainwater is preferred. A mixture of fine sand, perlite and moss create a suitable substrate. You can find these components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section.
