Dionaea muscipula 'Hammerhead Shark' - CarniVFT158
Dionaea muscipula 'Hammerhead Shark' has leaf traps that resemble the T shaped head of a hammerhead shark. This type of shark owes its streamlined shape to its evolution with sensors spread throughout the curiously shaped head. Dionaea muscipula 'Hammerhead Shark' has other things in common with its dangerous namesake: sharp teeth and a blood lust for unsuspecting prey.

Dionaea muscipula 'Hammerhead Shark' is a successfuly propagated Venus flytrap cultivar. The Venus flytrap – Latin name Dionaea muscipula – comes originally from America where it grows in marshy soil, low in nutrients. In order to provide itself with food it has developed leaf traps that snap shut when triggered by prey touching the tiny hairs on its upper leaf surfaces.
Dionaea muscipula 'Hammerhead Shark' likes wet conditions, preferably exposed to full sun. It should be watered with rainwater or boiled water, but not tap water which often has too high a calcium content. Dionaea muscipula 'Hammerhead Shark' can be grown indoors as a house plant, in a sunny location such as on a window ledge. As an exotic garden plant it will thrive near a water feature such as a pond in a wet and sunny spot.
