Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a real flycatcher: the most famous and spectacular of all the carnivorous plants. The Venus flytrap has the well-known bear trap-like snares which will rapidly snap shut around their prey whereupon the insect is digested. Next the snare will re-open in order to catch more insects. The snares lure insects by emitting a scent attractive to insects. In appearance they look dangerous and exotic, making the plant into a real eye-catcher. The Venus Fly Trap is easy to care for and can be kept and cultivated outdoors or indoors. At Araflora.com you may find many different species and variants of this exotic plant from North America for sale.
The Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) needs plenty of direct sunlight, ideally 4-6 hours a day, to grow well. Place the plant on a sunny windowsill for best results. Always use pure water, such as rainwater or distilled water, because tap water often contains harmful minerals. Keep the soil moist, but provide good drainage to prevent root rot. The ideal temperature for the Venus flytrap is between 20°C and 30°C in summer. In winter the plant needs a rest period and prefers cooler temperatures between 5°C and 10°C. It is important that the plant is not exposed to too much heat in winter, as the rust phase can take effect. The Venus flytrap catches its own food, so don't feed it insects too often. Once or twice per fall per year is sufficient. With sufficient light, pure water and occasional insects, the plant remains healthy and active.
