Vanilla planifolia variegated has the natural tendency to creep upward. This orchid doesn’t bloom until it teaches about 3 meter; something that will not not happen in the terrarium. Nonetheless this Vanilla species lives up any backwall. Vanilla planifolia variegated has a large spread: all of Central America and the northern part of South America. This shows us the plant can adapt easily to diverse surroundings, from dry to wet.
Preferably, place Vanilla planifolia variegated on or neat the backwall. Fern root is optimal, as it retains a lot of moisture. But a cork backwall can also suffice for this orchid. Regular watering is desirable, but skipping it sometimes shouldn’t be a problem. Vanilla planifolia has rather thick, stiff leaves: this is where the plant holds moisture. This is due to the fact that in nature this Vanilla grows in places with a high rate of evaporation. This is an ideal beginner’s plant.
