Plant information: Trumpet pitcherplant 'Sarracenia psittacina f. viridescens (Antocyanin free)'

Sarracenia psittacina f. viridescens belongs to the genus Sarracenia, a group of American pitcher plants native to the eastern United States and parts of Canada. This specific form is known for its low, creeping traps that lie horizontally along the ground. The traps are often yellow-green and have a distinctive “parrot-like” shape, from which the species gets its name (psittacina = “parrot”). A remarkable feature of this species is how it deceives its prey. The traps contain translucent windows that create the illusion of an exit. Insects entering the trap instinctively move toward the light, but this leads them deeper inside, away from the real opening. Backward-curving hairs prevent escape, and the insect is eventually digested by the plant. In nature, this species is often partially submerged after heavy rainfall, yet the traps keep functioning perfectly: the plant easily catches tadpoles and aquatic insects. The red, elegantly curved flowers—typical of Sarracenia—make the plant even more striking in spring.

Plant care: Trumpet pitcherplant 'Sarracenia psittacina f. viridescens (Antocyanin free)'

Plant Care information for the Sarracenia psittacina f. viridescens (Antocyanin free) carnivorous plant. Although this plant looks exotic, its care is surprisingly simple if you mimic its natural environment. Light: this carnivorous plant prefers full sun or a very bright indoor location.
More light results in more compact, vividly colored traps. Water & Humidity:  Always use rainwater, reverse osmosis water, or demineralized water. Keep the soil consistently moist. Indoors, the pot may stand in a shallow tray of water. Outdoors, a place at the edge of a pond is ideal. Temperature Tolerates 5–30°C. In winter, the plant must be brought indoors in colder climates to prevent frost damage. Soil Mix Use a nutrient-poor, airy substrate. A suitable mix is peat, sand, and perlite (as used by Araflora). Never use regular potting soil—it contains too many nutrients and can damage the roots. Feeding Feeding insects is unnecessary; the plant catches enough on its own.
