Plant information: Trumpet pitcher plant 'Sarracenia x Smoorii'

Trumpet pitcher plant x Smoorrii (Sarracenia x Smoorii) is a cultivar of the North-American carnivorous pitcher plants from the Sarracenia genus. Insects are attracted by the sugars formed in the pitchers of Pitcherplant x Smoorrii (Sarracenia x Smoorii) and they will be trapped in the pitchers after which the hoods will ensure that the insects can’t escape anymore. Araflora thinks it is a big advantage of plants from the Sarracenia genus that they are all hardy plants to a more or lesser extent.

Plant care: Trumpet pitcher plant 'Sarracenia x Smoorii'

Trumpet pitcher plant x Smoorrii (Sarracenia x Smoorii) needs plenty of sunlight, ideally at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, both indoors and outdoors. Place this carnivorous plant on a sunny windowsill or in the garden for optimal growth. The plant requires constant moisture and must not dry out. Keep the plant on a water tray with rainwater, as tap water contains too much calcium. Ensure the water level is not too high to avoid root rot. The Sarracenia x Smoorii grows best in nutrient-poor, well-draining soil, such as a mix of peat, sand, and perlite. Avoid using compost or fertilizers. The plant is fairly hardy but should be protected in cold climates. Cover the roots with hay or straw, or bring the plant indoors during freezing weather. Sarracenia x Smoorii catches its own food through insects, so no additional fertilizing is necessary. Remove dead leaves to encourage the growth of new ones. In winter, the plant enters dormancy and needs less water. With proper care, the Sarracenia x Smoorii makes a beautiful and useful addition to your home or garden.
