Plant information: Trumpet pitcher plant 'Sarracenia x Scarlett Bell'

Trumpet pitcher plant x Scarlett Bell (Sarracenia x Scarlett Bell) is a hybrid of the North-American carnivorous pitcher plants from the Sarracenia genus. Insects are attracted by the sugars formed in the pitchers and they will be trapped in the pitchers after which the hoods will ensure that the insects can’t escape anymore. Araflora thinks it is a big advantage of plants from the Sarracenia genus that they are all hardy plants to a more or lesser extent.

Plant care: Trumpet pitcher plant 'Sarracenia x Scarlett Bell'

Trumpet pitcher plant x Scarlet Bell (Sarracenia x Scarlett Bell) can be kept around a pond or in a vegetable garden, while it’s a hardy plant. When the plants are covered by hay or when it is snowing, put some snow on them in this way the plant can sustain severe frost periods. Sarracenia x Scarlett Bell loves sunlight and it can also cope with heat. For Sarracenia species it is of utmost importance that they never dry out. Sarracenia x Scarlett Bell can therefore be kept on a bed of water. While tap water mostly has a high calcium content which Sarracenia species don’t like. It is advised to use rainwater instead. Sarracenia x Scarlett Bell requires a nutrient poor soil, Araflora therefore uses a mix of peat, sand and perlite. Leaves that have turned brown might be cut off since they serve no function any longer.
