Trumpet pitcher plant x Juthatip Soper (Sarracenia x Juthatip Soper) is a hybride species of the North-American carnivorous pitcher plants of the Sarracenia genus. The pitchers of Sarracenia x Juthatip Soper have got a beautiful red whitish colour pattern and they have got ruffled hoods, that they got from Sarracenia leucophylla. Sarracenia x Juthatip Soper (XL) even won the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit in 1998, because of it’s appearance. Insects are being caught in the pitchers because they are attracted by the sugar producing glands within the pitchers, after which the hoods ensure that they can’t escape anymore. Araflora thinks it is a great advantage of the Sarracenia species that they are hardy plants to a more or lesser extent.
Trumpet pitcher plant x Juthatip Soper (Sarracenia x Juthatip Soper) requires a lot of sunlight and thrives best with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, both indoors and outdoors. Place the Sarracenia plant on a sunny windowsill or in the garden. This is a carnivorous plant that does not need extra feeding. Sarracenia x Juthatip Soper needs constant moisture, so keep it on a water tray and use rainwater, as tap water contains too much calcium. The plant grows well in poor, well-draining soil, such as a mix of peat, sand, and perlite. This plant is fairly hardy but should be protected from freezing in colder climates. Cover the roots with hay or bring the plant indoors in the winter. The Sarracenia x Juthatip Soper catches insects for nutrition, so no additional fertilization is required. Regularly remove dead leaves to encourage the growth of new ones. In winter, the Sarracenia x Juthatip Soper enters dormancy but still needs to stay moist. Make sure the water level isn't too high to avoid root rot. With proper care, this plant is a beautiful addition to your home or garden.
