The leaf is pinnate lanceolate with orange-brown and white-brown scales. Over the leaf stalk there is a row of white stripes on two sides. Originally the Cyathea brownii is found in parts of Australia and on some of the nearby islands; this fern was first discovered on the island of Norfolk and is therefore also known as the Norfolk Island tree fern. In nature this Cyathea can grow up to 18 meters high 'Though it takes about 100 years to do so'. In Nothern Europe the specimens placed in culture remain remarkably smaller. Cyatheas are known to grow a bit faster than Dicksonias.
Always water the tree fern in the crown. During warm weather, moisturize the trunk to prevent dehydration. During winter frost, bind the frond and cover the trunk with fleece. Make sure to also cover the soil around the trunk. One can put thatch in the crown. The placement of Cyathea brownii is in 'Partial' shade, especially the trunk is best put in shade, while the leaves can endure a little more sun. Properly permeable, nutritious soil is most suitable. A 'Small' Cyathea brownii can be placed inside, with the possibility of moving it outside during summer.
