Drosera slackii is a very well known sundew endemic to South Africa. It was named after Adrian Slack, a pioneer when it comes to the cultivation of carnivorous plants. It is characterized by brightly colored red hairs on the rosette of trapping leaves. Flattened leafstalks that end in wide, rounded trapping surfaces grow from the centre of the rosette. The leaves of Drosera slackii can be large and brightly colored when circumstances are favorable. When temperatures rise to high the sundew fails to thrive and the sundew will pale to a yellowish white. As the name suggests, the 'Narrow leaf' variation has leaves that are more narrow than the standard form of Drosera slackii.
Drosera slackii is best cultivated in a mixture of peat, perlite and sand. Drosera slackii likes warmth and humidity so it can be placed on a sunny windowsill or in a terrarium with artificial lighting.
