Cycas rumphii is a cycad named after the German-Dutch naturalist and soldier Rumphius, who was the first Westerner to come into contact with this species of Cycas in the seventeenth century on the Indonesian island of Ambon. Sago is a starchy substance, which - if prepared properly - can be eaten.
