Orchid 'Schoenorchis micrantha'

Schoenorchis micrantha - Orchid159

This is a miniature orchid from Southeast Asia, Australia and the islands of the Pacific Ocean. Its small size makes Schoenorchis micrantha ideal for a modest terrarium. The orchid produces multiple flower strands, each carrying a few small white flowers. The colour of the flowers contrast beautifully and subtly with the needle shaped leaves of Schoenorchis micrantha.

Plant care: Orchid 'Schoenorchis micrantha'

Schoenorchis micrantha can be cultivated in artificial light, but make sure your terrarium lamp is at least 10 centimetre from the plant. If you don't use artificial light, place the orchid in a light spot, out of direct sunlight. The humidity should be quite high, around 80%. The ideal temperature for Schoenorchis micrantha is around 25⁰C. It is best not to let the temperature drop below 15⁰C or rise above 30⁰C. Water the plant with rainwater or distilled water using a spray if you have attached it to a surface. Water it whenever the substrate or roots have dried slightly. In practice this will be three to five times a week. This, combined with a proper humidity will help prevent infections and disease. If you prefer to keep Schoenorchis micrantha in a pot, orchid-mix will make a suitable substrate. It would be better to attach this orchid to a piece of bark or wood. You can find this and other components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section. This orchid needs little or no fertilization. Old flowers can be cut from the plant.
