Scaphosepalum rapax most notable feature is its size: mini. In a humid terrarium or paludarium with sufficient light, this miniature orchid will feel at home. With correct care Scaphosepalum rapax grows yellow flowers with purple spots, which appear on long, vertically-growing flower branches. The flowers add a lot of extra color to the terrarium. The leaf’s growth is very graceful.

In nature this miniature orchid grows on trees in the moist mountain forests of central Ecuador at a height of 450-1200 meters above sea level. In this area this Scaphosepalum lives between mosses, ferns and bromeliads, on tree trunks. This plant is thus excellently suited for placement on an epiphyte branch or fern root backwall.

Scaphosepalum rapax requires a spot with a lot of light. Daily misting with soft water (such as osmosis water) is recommended. Extra fertilization is not directly required. Provide this orchid with an airy substrate or place the orchid on a fern root or epiphyte trunk. Always wrap the roots in Sphagnum if the plant is not placed in a substrate, to ensure sufficient moisture. Some experience with keeping orchids is recommended.
