Gomesa crispa is a small to medium sized, sympodial orchid. From every flat, droplet-shaped pseudobulb, two to three sharp lanceolate leaves are produced. From summer till autumn, this species is able to produce one to multiple 20 cm long inflorescences. Every inflorescence could hold up to 60 flowers each. The main color of the 2 cm long flower is a light yellow to a light green. The tepal of the flower is deeply undulating, hence the name of this species. The top side of the labellum has a subtle orange marking. Flowers produce a pleasant scent, especially in the evening. Propagation is easiest by division of older plants. Make sure that every division contains at least three pseudobulbs.
Gomesa crispa grows epiphytically on mossy branches of trees. This species occurs naturally between 500 and 1500 meters in altitude. For this species, provide day temperatures between 16 and 25 degrees Celsius. At nighttime, a drop in temperature of around 5 degrees stimulates growth. Ideally, humidity is higher than 70% in its growing environment. When humidity is very high, it is possible to grow this species mounted on bark or other media. Allow for optimal ventilation. The ideal potting media is an airy mix for epiphytes and could consist of medium sized bark. Place this plant in bright indirect light. Water this species regularly in the growing season which lasts normally from spring till summer. It is possible to let the medium dry out in between waterings in winter and store it in a cooler place. Fertilize this orchid weekly with a recommended dosage of specialized orchid fertilizer.
