Cattleya skinneri - Orchid307
This orchid is Costa Rica's national plant, and with good reason! Cattleya skinneri produces a lot of large flowers, which can be all sorts of colours. In this case it's light purple. At the centre of the somewhat dark purple tube shaped lip is a white edge, contrasting the rest of the flower beautifully. Its leaves are of medium size with a fleshy texture. Cattleya skinneri is easy to cultivate, making it suitable for novice ...
orchid-enthusiasts.

Cattleya skinneri can be found in nature in the tropical regions of Central America. It is found in South Mexico, Nicaragua, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica. There it grows upon trees and rocks. Cattleya skinneri can reach sizes up to 50 centimetre with leaves up to 20 centimetre. At Araflora you can find many variations and hybrids of this species. The one you see here is a purple variation.
Cattleya skinneri favours light, but shouldn't be placed in direct sunlight. During winter, this orchid should get a bit more light. The best temperature for Cattleya skinneri is around 25⁰C and a bit below that during the night. Make sure the temperature doesn't drop below 15⁰C or rise above 30⁰C. The humidity of its environment should be around 80%. Raising the humidity slightly at night will stimulate the growth of flowers. Water Cattleya skinneri using rainwater or distilled water when its roots have dried slightly. This will be around three to five times a week. Water should be able to drain from the substrate. A proper airflow will help prevent diseases and infection. You can use orchid-mix as substrate. You can find this and other components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section. Fertilize with caution. Old flowers can be cut from the plant.
