Plant care: Orchid 'Barbosella cucullata 'Starter''

Barbosella cucullata is relatively easy to look after. It will survive in temperatures between 10⁰C and 25⁰C, but it will flourish at temperatures around 20⁰C. The humidity of its environment should ideally be around 80%. There should also be a constant flow of air through the space it is being kept to prevent rot and disease. A proper drainage is also vital. Water the Barbosella cucullata three to five times a week using rainwater or distilled water, making sure the soil is able to dry a little in between the watering sessions. Barbosella cucullata prefers partial shade and should be kept away from direct sunlight. Once the flowers have finished blooming it's best to cut them off at the base of the stem. This orchid hardly needs any substrate to grow, so it only needs to be lightly fertilized. You can use a piece of bark or cork as substrate, but orchid-mix is also an option. You can find these and other components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section.
