The jungles of Peru and Ecuador are the natural habitat of Monolena primuliflora. It grows as an epiphyte, often on trees. This ant plant lives in close harmony with ants. It produces small spherical "pearl bodies" on the underside of leaves, rich in proteins, on which ants feed. In return, ants keep Monolena primuliflora free from disease and spread its seeds.
Monolena primuliflora thrives in a high level of humidity. Misting from time to time is therefore a good idea to keep humidity levels high. Do not expose it to direct sunlight but make sure the potting mix is kept moist. Monolena primuliflora is not as temperature sensitive as some plants. It does well in both warm and cooler temperatures.
