Impatiens mirabilis - Botho189

Often species from the balsam family are herbaceous, such as the species that occur naturally or were introduced in the Netherlands. Imatiens mirabilis, on the other hand, is a species with a wooden trunk. The plant can also become very large, with a size of more than 1.5 meters. Impatiens mirabilis blooms with white-pink flowers with a shape that is very similar to that of an orchid.

Plant information: Impatiens mirabilis

Impatiens mirabilis is found in a few locations in southern Thailand and mainland Malaysia. The tree-like trunk of the plant can grow up to two meters. Deep green almond-shaped leaves grow from this thickened trunk, like many other balsamic species. Impatiens mirabilis often has yellow-white flowers. However, we offer a rare variety with white-pink flowers. All this makes the Latin name mirabilis, which means "wonderful", very appropriate here.

Plant care: Impatiens mirabilis

Impatiens mirabilis likes a warm environment with an average temperature of 26°C. The temperature can be slightly lower or higher, but should not fall below 15°C or above 32°C in all cases. The plant needs a spot in partial shade. Direct sunlight can cause the plant to dry out. Humidity of about 80-90% is optimal. In winter, temperature and humidity should be lowered to give the plant its resting phase. Water the plant a lot, but make sure that no water can remain in the pot. This can cause root rot. To create good drainage and suitable soil for Impatiens mirabilis, it is best to use a mix of sand, pumice stone and plant soil. You can find this, in addition to other growing supplies, in our "Plant accessories" section. You can give the plant a small amount of plant food in addition to some lime once every two weeks. It is possible to keep the plant in bonsai shape and therefore it can be pruned
