Huperzia phlegmaria requires tropical conditions in which it can grow to a length of roughly 80 centimetres. Cultivating it as a hanging plant is a good option. Huperzia phlegmaria grows slowly but growth will accelerate under ideal conditions. The Huperzia phlegmaria supplied by Araflora will be young and vibrant; as a mature plant it will form a highly attractive green “curtain”.
Huperzia phlegmaria does not require a great deal of attention and is by no means difficult to cultivate. The plant needs to be watered every three days. It is best to add a few pebbles at the bottom of the pot so water can drain away easily. Good air circulation will prevent infection or rotting. The plant requires a relatively high level of humidity and a temperature between 15⁰ C and 30⁰ C. The ideal substrate consists of peat or sphagnum moss. A moderate amount of fertiliser will promote the plant’s growth. Huperzia phlegmaria needs plenty of light but it must not be subjected to direct sunlight or fierce, bright light. Pruning is not advisable.
