This Hoya -also called waxflower- is originally from the foothills of the Himalayas and grows high up in trees as an epiphyte. With adequate care this exotic species will flower profusely. Inflorescences will appear in bunches or ‘peduncles’ of green-pink pubescent flowers. These flowers will emit a gentle sweet scent in the evening! However, even if this Hoya is not flowering it is still a sight to behold.
This exotic species’ natural habitat are the montane forests the lower Himalayas. Therefor, this species will grow well even with lower temperatures. Although it can tolerate temperatures down to 10⁰C, it prefers room temperatures (18⁰C-20⁰C). The forests from which this plant hails are often drenched in fog, and therefor this houseplant will enjoy every bit of extra humidity it can get, but it will also grow in normal house conditions. As most Hoya’s, this plant does not tolerate a soggy soil and will grow best in a well-draining mix of regular peat soil, orchid bark and perlite. Make sure the soil is almost dry before watering again to prevent root rot.
