The Chinese ornamental banana gives your garden an exotic look. This exclusive banana plant originates from China and grows at a height of 2500 metres. Musella lasiocarpa is also called dwarf banana or Chinese ornamental banana. In the first few years of its growth the plant has green-greyish leaves that drop off in winter. After two to four years the plant comes into flower; it no longer grows leaves but only sturdy flower stalks. These sturdy stalks grow yellow flowers on their stems which will flower for three to four months. Subsequently inedible, small fruits and banana-like seeds appear. If you are looking for something really exclusive and exotic to grace your garden ARAFLORA can honestly recommend this plant.
The Chinese ornamental banana can easily be kept in a garden or in a large container. The Musella lasiocarpa can tolerate frost provided that the plant is covered with straw and the soil is not [too] wet. This exotic banana can tolerate temperatures to minus 12˚Celsius [10.4F]. In the growing season this ornamental banana needs a lot of water. Place this plant in bright sunlight or in a very light area.
