Plant information: Euphorbia alluaudii

Euphorbia alluaudii (also known as euphorbia leucodendron) has many other funny names: “cat tails euphorbia”, “sausage tree”, “pencil tree”, just to name a few. This adorable and rare succulent is native to Madagascar. In the wild, they can grow up to 6 meter tall! Luckily, those kept in a pot as an indoor plant grows only up to a modest height of 1.2 - 1.8 m. In summer, tiny elongated leaves grow on the stems. These leaves quickly fall off and form little black glandular rings, giving the plant its signature polka dot look.

Plant care: Euphorbia alluaudii

Like most euphorbias, euphorbia alluaudii is very easy to care for. It needs medium to plenty of sun. Araflora supplies it with well-draining soil. Watering is required when the top few inches of soil is dry. However, water with small amounts since overwatering can drench the soil which can cause root rot. Euphorbias suffer more often from over-watering and too much care, than the other way around. Though it thrives with lots of direct sunlight, euphorbia alluaudii is observed to be rather shade tolerant. However, those grown without adequate light might end up being long and leggy.
