The amount of water and nutrients needed by this plant varies per season. In general the Dioscorea elephantipes does not need much water but does need to be regularly fertilized. The stalks of the Dioscorea are fast-growing and can be pruned at will. As the plants supplied by Araflora are 10 to 20 years old, the tubers will already be large and capable of providing the plants with a stock on hand. Because of this the plant is even easier to care for, as periods with too little water or nutrients can be tided over by the reserves in the tuber.
