Butterwort cyclosecta (Pinguicula cyclosecta) is a carnivorous plant from the butterwort plant family (Lentibulariaceae). It originates from the northern part of Mexico and reaches a maximum diameter of 2.5 cm. The Pinguicula plant produces a rosette of egg shaped to oval, purple-green leaves. On the upper side of the leaves is covered with many glands producing a sticky substance where insects could be caught with. The insects are digested on top of the leaves, the nutrients available are used by the plant. If therre is enough light, the leaves of Pinguicula cyclosecta turn a brighter purple, more pronounced at the leaf edges. Once per year, mostly in spring, one to several flower stalks are produced carrying a single bright purple, spurred flower. Flowers are somewhat similar to the flower of a violet. Propagation of Butterwort cyclosecta (Pinguicula cyclosecta)is done by repotting thesmaller rosettes forming near the base of the mature plant, or seeds.
Mexican butterworth cyclosecta (Pinguicula cyclosecta) is suitable for keeping in the living room, cool greenhouse or a special terrarium. Summer temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius are recommended for optimal growth. Pinguicula cyclosecta consists mainly of carnivore leaves and needs a so-called soil. A high degree above 70% is also important. In winter this type can be cooler; the plant then produces non-carnivorous leaves and should be kept drier between waterings. Pinguicula cyclosecta needs good air circulation all year round. Pinguicula cyclosecta grows best in very bright but indirect light; direct sunlight can burn the leaves. Place this carnivorous plant in a mineral-rich (sandy) soil mixture that can retain moisture well. The soil mixture should contain little. Although plant food is usually never excluded, small insects can be placed on the leaves Pinguicula cyclosecta as 'food.'
