Butterwort agnata (Pinguicula agnata) is a carnivorous plant with light-green, rounded leaves lying close to the soil. It is one of the Mexican Butterwort species, which secretes a thin layer of mucilage onto its leaves on which insects will stay stuck. Butterwort agnata (Pinguicula agnata) digests these insects are digested to provide its necessary nitrogen. In bright sunlight the leaves turn red. When this plant is in flower, it produces a long stalk ending in a large, white flower. Since the flower is at the end of a very long stalk, the Mexican Butterworth looks really spectacular when in bloom. In certain periods of the year this plant also produces non-sticky leaves that serve as normal leaves do for photosynthesis.
The Mexican butterwort agnata (Pinguicula agnata) is a true botanical species. This carnivorous plant that thrives well indoors. In summer, Pinguicula agnata can also do well on the balcony, terrace, or in the garden. Temperatures below 5° Celsius (41° F) are best avoided, as Pinguicula agnata goes dormant at lower temperatures. High temperatures up to 30° Celsius (86° F), however, are not a problem. Pinguicula agnata is a butterwort species that prefers a bright spot. Moisture is important; high humidity and constantly moist soil are necessary during the growing season. In winter, the base of the plant should be kept dry to prevent the rosette from rotting due to excess moisture. For this reason, Araflora keeps this plant in a mix of peat and perlite.
