Plant information: Bromeliad 'Vriesea correia araujoi'

The Vriesea correia-araujoi bromeliad forms a compact rosette of stiff, often gray-green to light-green leaves, featuring subtle and attractive leaf patterns. Like many Vriesea bromeliads, its flower emerges from the center of the rosette, displaying a flat, often brightly colored inflorescence (bract) from which small tropical flowers bloom. Origin & History of Vriesea correia-araujoi Named after Brazilian botanist Correia de Araujo, the Vriesea correia-araujoi was only formally described in the 1980s. This rare tropical bromeliad naturally grows as an epiphytic plant, meaning it attaches to trees without drawing nutrients from them. In its native Atlantic rainforest habitat, it thrives in high humidity, shaded environments, and areas with constant air circulation. Because of its rarity, slow growth, and unique appearance, this Vriesea bromeliad is highly sought after by tropical plant collectors and bromeliad enthusiasts worldwide.

Plant care: Bromeliad 'Vriesea correia araujoi'

Light – Essential for a Healthy Bromeliad in a Terrarium
The Vriesea correia-araujoi thrives best in a bright location with clear, indirect light. This tropical bromeliad enjoys a warm spot with plenty of daylight, but direct sunlight—especially in the afternoon—can cause leaf burn. Therefore, avoid placing this bromeliad directly in front of a south-facing window; a spot with filtered light is preferable. Watering – How to Keep Your Vriesea correia-araujoi Healthy Like many other bromeliads, the Vriesea correia-araujoi stores water in its central rosette. Regularly fill this “tank” with clean water (preferably rainwater or filtered water) and refresh it weekly to prevent rot or stagnant water. Additionally, water the potting soil sparingly when it starts to dry out. This bromeliad has low demands but prefers to be slightly dry rather than too wet. Humidity – Important for Tropical Plants Like Bromeliads.
The Vriesea correia-araujoi is originally a tropical plant and requires high humidity levels (60–80%). Regular misting or using a humidifier helps maintain its beautiful leaf structure. This makes it ideal for tropical settings like terrariums. Temperature – Warm and StableAs a true tropical bromeliad, the Vriesea correia-araujoi prefers warmth. Ideal temperatures range between 18–28°C (64–82°F). Avoid drafts and cold temperatures below 15°C (59°F), as these can damage the plant. Feeding – Light Fertilizing for Optimal Growth
Feed the Vriesea correia-araujoi during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted bromeliad or orchid fertilizer. Add the fertilizer to the water in the rosette for natural absorption. Overfeeding is unnecessary—once a month is sufficient.
