Utricularia praetermissa is found in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. It is a medium sized epiphyte, which means it grows upon trees and other plants. The leaves of this bladderwort are shaped like spoons and quite big. This is scaled to the size of the large white flowers, which have a yellow centre. Utricularia praetermissa grows at altitudes between 1.000 and 2.800 meters.
Utricularia praetermissa needs a light spot to flourish. A high humidity and a temperature between 25⁰C and 28⁰C is also important. During the night this temperature may be a bit lower. Make sure the substrate can't dry by using rainwater or distilled water to keep it moist. The substrate is ideally a mixture of peat moss and perlite or pumice. It is also possible to attach Utricularia praetermissa to a piece of bark. You can find this and other components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section. If you don't have a terrarium or humid spot at home, you can keep Utricularia praetermissa under a bell jar near your heating. Regular fresh air is important though.
