Utricularia longifolia - Carniutr27
Utricularia longifolia - Carniutr27
Bladderwort usually has quite a modest size. Utricularia longifolia is an exception here, as its name might suggest. The leaves of this carnivore are elongated, making them look like the leaves of a fern. Above this you will find beautiful purple flowers with a yellow spot in the centre, growing from a large, slender stem. We also offer Utricularia longifolia in this large size.

Utricularia longifolia originates from the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where this species grows upon trees and rocks. Compared to other bladderwort, this plant is a giant. This is definitely a good thing though, as it emphasizes its amazing purple flowers even more. The flowers look much like the flowers of an orchid and they have a yellow spot on the top. They grow in small clusters from long flower stalks, making Utricularia longifolia even more special.
Utricularia longifolia is a real all-rounder when it comes to habitat. It can be attached to rocks, branches or bark, but even in soil with its roots underwater will make this plant happy. The ideal substrate would be a mixture of peat moss and perlite or pumice. You can find this and other components in our ‘Plant Accessories’ section. Utricularia longifolia is known to be a fast growing plant and needs a lot of sunlight and water. Make sure the substrate doesn't dry, so be aware of direct bright sunlight. It needs a temperature around 25⁰C.
