Utricularia alpina x endressii - Carniutr04a
This carnivorous bladderwort catches small insects in a sort of fish trap with a lid. The flowers of Utricularia alpina x endressii look very similar to those of an orchid. They have a purple white colour and a remarkable yellow spot on the bottom petal. Utricularia alpina x endressii is a hybrid of two species which are easy to keep in a terrarium, but could even flourish on the windowsill.

Utricularia alpina x endressii is a hybrid of Utricularia alpina, found in the northern part of South America and on the Antilles and Utricularia endressii, found in Panama. The first of these has white flowers and a second one purple ones. This results in a hybrid with striking white flowers with a purple glare. The flowers are not only similar to those of an orchid. They also resemble a snapdragon. Utricularia alpina x endressii grows upon trees and other plants and can reach around 25 centimetre. The elongated leaves are especially large in this species. This species is perennial, so you can enjoy this exceptional carnivore for a long time.
There is no great challenge in taking care of this plant. Although it enjoys insects, it doesn't need them to survive. The tropical origin of its two ancestors results in Utricularia alpina x endressii also needing a warm and humid environment around 28⁰C. A terrarium or a warm humid spot on the windowsill will be enough. You can attach the plant to a piece of bark, but it can also be kept in a pot with a mixture of perlite and peat moss. In this way excess water can't linger in the pot and dehydration is also prevented. We offer a suitable mixture and other components in our 'Plant Accessories' section. It is best to water Utricularia alpina x endressii using rainwater or distilled water.
