Begonia minutifolia - Begonia68

Many begonias have large round leaves, but not Begonia minutifoli. As its name suggests it is a beautiful small-growing species with “minute” leaves that do not exceed half an inch in length or width. They are bright green with serated edges that contrast beautifully with the red stems. Begonia minutifolia produces white flowers and grows extremely well in typical terrarium conditions.

Plant care: Begonia minutifolia

Begonia minutifolia needs a warm and humid environment. The temperature should be around 24⁰C with humidity of 80% during the daytime and slightly higher at night. The growing medium must be kept permanently moist, for example by placing sphagnum moss round the base of the plant. Fertilise the plant once or twice a month in order to promote active growth. A mixture of peat and perlite makes an ideal growing medium. See “Plant accessories” for more details of this and other aids to cultivation. Begonia decora is suitable for pruning.
