Plant information: Aglaonema pumilum

Aglaonema pumilum is native to the tropics of Burma and Thailand. Aglaonema pumilum is a rather rare plant from the Aglaonema genus, therefore Araflora is proud to be able to sell this plant. Aglaonema pumilum was already first described in 1893 by a man called Joseph Dalton Hooker and even earlier it was already collected for the first time in a hilly region in India, called the Lushai Hills in 1827. Aglanonema is derived from two Greek words that can be translated as bright and thread, they refer to the leave colour and to the stamens. The leaves of Aglaonema pumilum are very tough of structure and feel almost kind of leathery. The leaves have a nice dark green to light green colour and with fairly large silver flecks on them. Aglaonema pumilum is not a fast growing plant it will stay rather compact in size.

Plant care: Aglaonema pumilum

Aglaonema pumilum thrives with temperatures of around 20°C -25°C, during winter time it is important to keep the temperature above 16°C -18°C. Otherwise chilling damage might occur. Maybe even more important is to keep a stable temperature regime during the growth of the plant. Araflora uses a well-aerated and well-draining soil for Aglaonema pumilum. During the growing season, spring and summer, Aglaonema pumilum can be watered thoroughly after it is checked that the top soil is dry to touch. The watering frequency and amount can be decreased during the colder months. Araflora advises to provide the plant with some regular organic houseplant fertilizer bi-weekly from March to August. Araflora advises to place the plant in a spot with bright but filtered sunlight in order to keep the beautiful colouration of the leaves. Aglaonema pumilum is a tropical plant and therefore it will like to be misted on a regular basis, multiple times a week during the growing season but decrease the frequency a bit during the colder months.
