Specifications
Huperzia 'Lycopodium' phlegmaria

Huperzia phlegmaria has tiny leaves growing on forked stems which can be as long as 80 cm. The stems grow from a single point from where they hang down towards the ground. In the wild, Huperzia phlegmaria is found in several parts of the world including Madagascar, Africa, Australia and the Phillipines. This species is an epiphyte that normally grows on trees in its natural habitat so is ideally suited to cultivation in a hanging pot. Araflora can supply large verions of this species.

Plant care

Huperzia phlegmaria does not require a great deal of attention and is by no means difficult to cultivate. The plant needs to be watered every three days. It is best to add a few pebbles at the bottom of the pot so water can drain away easily. Good air circulation will prevent infection or rotting. The plant requires a relatively high level of humidity and a temperature between 15⁰ C and 30⁰ C. The ideal substrate consists of peat or sphagnum moss. A moderate amount of fertiliser will promote the plant’s growth. Huperzia phlegmaria needs plenty of light but it must not be subjected to direct sunlight or fierce, bright light. Pruning is not advisable.
