Plant information: Venus flytrap Dionaea muscipula 'Ivory King'

Dionaea muscipula 'Ivory King' has traps formed by the terminal parts of each of the plant's leaves, in which it catches insects and spiders. The edges of the lobes are fringed by hair-like protrusions or cilia, which mesh together. Once the trap closes, it is impossible for the prey to escape. The leaf traps re-open when the plant has digested its prey.

Plant care: Venus flytrap Dionaea muscipula 'Ivory King'

Dionaea muscipula 'Ivory King' thrives in a wet environment, preferably in direct sunlight. The growing medium needs to be kept wet with rain water, distilled water or demineralised water. Hard water with a high calcium content is unsuitable since it is likely to cause root rot. Venus flytraps do not need plant food as they feed on the insects they catch.
