Plant information: Venus flytrap 'Dionaea muscipula'

The Venus Fly Trap is a real flycatcher: the most famous and spectacular of all the carnivorous plants. It has the well-known bear trap-like snares which will rapidly snap shut around their prey whereupon the insect is digested. Next the snare will re-open in order to catch more insects. The snares lure insects by emitting a scent attractive to insects. In appearance they look dangerous and exotic, making the plant into a real eye-catcher. The Venus Fly Trap is easy to care for and can be kept and cultivated outdoors or indoors. At Araflora.com you may find many different species and variants of this exotic plant from North America for sale.

Plant care: Venus flytrap 'Dionaea muscipula'

This plant needs a lot of direct sunlight but no chemical fertilizer. Be sure never to let it dry out. The Venus Fly Trap does like a moist environment and prefers being in bright sunlight. Dionaea plants do not need any fertilizer as they will get all their nutrients from the insects they catch. Watering a Venus Fly Trap can best be done with water low in calcium e.g. boiled water or rain-water. Indoors the Dionaea needs to be placed in a sunny spot. Outdoors these exotic plants do well in a wet, sunny environment for example close to a pond. The snares of the Dionaea can snap shut about nine times moreover they are capable of digesting an insect about three times. Of course the plant will also grow its new snares. This Araflora plant is not edible and should be used for decoration purposes only.
