Plant information: Vanilla orchid 'Vanilla planifolia'

Vanilla planifolia has the natural tendency to creep upward. This orchid doesn’t bloom until it teaches about 3 meter; something that will not not happen in the terrarium. Nonetheless this Vanilla species lives up any backwall. Vanilla planifolia has a large spread: all of Central America and the northern part of South America. This shows us the plant can adapt easily to diverse surroundings, from dry to wet.

Plant care: Vanilla orchid 'Vanilla planifolia'

Preferably, place Vanilla planifolia on or neat the backwall. Fern root is optimal, as it retains a lot of moisture. But a cork backwall can also suffice for this orchid. Regular watering is desirable, but skipping it sometimes shouldn’t be a problem. Vanilla planifolia has rather thick, stiff leaves: this is where the plant holds moisture. This is due to the fact that in nature this Vanilla grows in places with a high rate of evaporation. This is an ideal beginner’s plant.
