Nepenthes x ventrata 'Variagated' - CarniNep88a
Nepenthes x ventrata 'Variagated' - CarniNep88a
Nepenthes x ventrata is a natural hybrid involving two parent species: Nepenthes ventricosa, a lowland species, and Nepenthes alata, a highland species. Nepenthes x ventrata is extremely popular, not least because it is relatively easy to grow indoors. Its green pitchers which turn red when exposed to sunlight, make an exotic and interesting spectacle. This variegated variety has leaves that are edged or patterned in white.

The smallish plant supplied by Araflora will grow into full-sized carnivorous plant of up to 2 metres. Unlike other members of the Nepenthes genus, this species has variegated leaves, in an attractive combination of green and white. It can be grown in a hanging basket or a normal pot, but in either case the pitchers must have sufficient space. In such conditions, the plant will grow at a normal rate. When it blooms, Nepenthes x ventrata will produce a cluster of yellowish brown flowers.
Nepenthes x ventrata requires a high level of humidity in order to form healthy pitchers. It needs to be kept damp in a well-drained medium using rainwater or distilled water. It likes bright, indirect sun. In the warm, summer months it can be placed outdoors but care must be taken to ensure it has sufficient water. It requires daytime a temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius with cool, humid nights. The temperature should never be lower than 10 degrees Celsius or higher than 30 degrees. It prefers slightly acidic peat as a growing medium and can be pruned if it becomes too large.
