Nepenthes x ventrata - CarniNep85
Nepenthes x ventrata - CarniNep85
Nepenthes x ventrata is a natural hybrid involving two parent species: Nepenthes ventricosa, a lowland species, and Nepenthes alata, a highland species. Nepenthes x ventrata is extremely popular, not least because it is relatively easy to grow indoors. Its green pitchers which turn red when exposed to sunlight, make an exotic and interesting spectacle.

The smallish plant supplied by Araflora will grow into full-sized carnivorous plant of up to 2 metres. It can be grown in a hanging basket or a free-standing pot, but in either case the pitchers must have sufficient space. In such conditions, the plant will grow at a normal rate. When it blooms, Nepenthes x ventrata produces a cluster of yellowish brown flowers.
Nepenthes x ventrata requires a high level of humidity in order to form healthy pitchers. It needs to be kept damp in a well-drained medium. It likes bright, indirect sun. It requires a daytime temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius with cool, humid nights. The temperature should never be lower than 10 degrees Celsius or higher than 30 degrees. It prefers slightly acidic peat as a growing medium. It can be pruned if it becomes too big.
