Nepenthes veitchii 'S' - CarniNep58b
Nepenthes veitchii, or Veitch's Pitcher-Plant, is a Nepenthes species from the island of Borneo. It is quite unlike other Nepthenes because of its large pitchers with a conspicuous mouth and a wide peristome or pitcher lip. It is a true epiphyte. Nepthenes veitchii is not difficult to cultivate but its rate of growth can be slow in some cases. It is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a low plant with large pitchers.

Nepthenes veitchli does not form lianas - the climbing vines found throughout tropical rain forests. When supported - by a tree trunk for example – it will wrap itself round the support and climb upwards. With the right level of humidity it will form beautiful, large pitchers. When it blooms, Nepthenes veitchli produces cluster of yellowish brown flowers. It can produce the flowers all year round.
This tropical pitcher species requires a great deal of sunlight, but not direct sunlight or it will dehydrate. The best temperature to cultivate this species is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, certainly no lower than 10 degrees Celsius or higher than 30 degrees. It should be given rainwater or distilled water regularly but the medium and pot must ensure effective drainage. It needs spraying at regular intervals to ensure that there is water in the pitchers. It also needs a relatively high level of humidity. The best growing medium is neutral to slightly acidic peat. No additional feeding is required. If the plant becomes too big, it can be pruned.
