Nepenthes truncata - CarniNep57
Nepenthes truncata - CarniNep57
Nepthenes truncata has enormous pitchers which on occasion have been known to attract small mammals as their prey. The pitchers are evenly coloured with a purple lip. The plant derives its name from its heart shaped leaves, which in combination with its pitchers make this Nepthenes a stunning addition to any collection.

In the wild, this vulnerable species is found growing in the Philippines at elevations between 230 and 1,500 metres. It is therefore classified as a lowland or intermediate species. It can grow to a height of one metre in a hanging basket or a free-standing pot. It produces yellowish browns flowers all year round that can be as big as 80 centimetres.
Nepenthes truncata requires plenty of sunlight, but not full sun or it will become dehydrated. The best temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, certainly no lower than 10 degrees Celsius or higher than 30 degrees. It needs plenty of rainwater or distilled water and a well-drained pot. It also needs spraying regularly with water so the pitchers retain water. Nepenthes truncata needs a relatively high level of humidity, thrives in neutral to slightly acidic peat and requires additional feeding. It can be pruned if it becomes too large
