The Tacca leontopetaloides is a species closely related to yams. The Tacca leontopetaloides, also known as the "Polynesian Arrowroot", has glossy green arrow-shaped leaves. During the flowering period, dark purple to almost black flowers form.

The Tacca leontopetaloides is native to tropical regions of Africa, Asia, Australia and Pacific islands. Long ago, the starchy Tacca leontopetaloides was taken to Pacific islands as an important food source. The Hawaiians also used the Tacca leontopetaloides as a medicine for stomach complaints.
Water regularly. Do not overwater. Keep the soil constantly moist and do not let it dry out in between waterings. A sunny to partial shady location is suitable for the Tacca leontopetaloides.
