Heliamphora x heterodoxa x minor is a hybrid between the Sun pitcher plants Heliamphora heterodoxa and Heliamphora minor. This carnivorous plant has a modest size and a large nectar gland. The bright green, pitcher-shaped traps with red veins catch insects for additional nutrients in the nutrient-poor soil of tropical Venezuela. The prey is attracted by a nectar gland at the rim of the pitcher. Once the insect lands on the rim, it loses its grip and falls into the digestive fluid. Heliamphora x heterodoxa x minor grows to about 3 to 10 cm tall and produces relatively large white flowers with a pink hue and a cluster of yellow stamens. These sun pitcher plants capture insects to compensate for the nutrient-poor soil in which they grow. For additional information about Sunpitchers (Heliamphora), please check the Araflora product info below. The symbols will provide you with further details about this carnivorous plant.
This Sun pitcher plant heterodoxa x minor (Heliamphora x heterodoxa x minor) is easier to care for than its parent species and is therefore ideal for the terrarium if you do not have much experience with keeping Heliamphora. Place the heliamphora plants in a bright spot with a temperature of around 25°C. The temperature should ideally not drop below 10°C or rise above 30°C, although Heliamphora x heterodoxa x minor is quite tolerant of temperature fluctuations. Keep the substrate continuously moist, but ensure that excess water can drain away properly. A mix of sphagnum moss and perlite or pumice has these properties. You can find this material in our Plant Accessories section. Always use rainwater or distilled water for watering, as otherwise, mineral buildup can occur in the soil. Humidity should be high, above 75%. Withered cups can be trimmed away.
