Philodendron radiatum is found in Central America and South America. The plant is an epiphyte and a vigorous climber. In the wild the leaves grow up to almost a meter and are deeply incised and lobed. Each side of the leaves can contain between 5 to 10 lobe segments. When grown as an indoor plant, the leaves do not usually grow as large but they are bigger than most house plants. Philodendron radiatum can also be kept outside on your summer garden or your patio to give it a tropical look. You will notice younger leaves are first heart shaped. As they mature, lobes and incisions slowly appear and transform the appearance of the leaves to look more like their wild counterparts. Araflora advises to use a moss pole when Philodendron radiatum gets bigger, while Philodendron radiatum will eagerly use it to climb on and it will fill your living space with a cascade of large, showy leaves.
Philodendron radiatum likes bright indirect sunlight. If you keep it indoors close to a window be sure to keep it at a considerable distance from the window or use something as blinds in front of your window. Otherwise the leaves might be harmed by direct sunlight. Remarkably enough Philodendron radiatum also can thrive under low-light conditions. When you keep the plant outdoors on for example your patio, make sure it has some shade to overcome leaf burn and don’t keep it in a windy place either. Araflora advises to bring Philodendron radiatum indoors during the colder months, while it isn’t a hardy plant. When you keep Philodendron radiatum as a house plant, it will thrive with the temperatures from 13°C to 27°C. The plant likes a humidity level above 60%. Araflora uses a well-draining soil for Philodendron radiatum, the soil should always be kept moist but never be drenched. Philodendron radiatum likes to be watered regularly, but be sure to not over-water it since this can cause root rot. The plant’s long stems will bend towards sunlight. Be sure to rotate the plant frequently to ensure it looks fabulous from all angles.
