Philodendron ornatum is native to the tropics of South America. It develops beautiful heart-shaped leaves that first unfurl in a light pink shade. As they mature, they become green and glossy, with their midribs slightly lighter in colour. Primary veins on the underside of the leaves are in an eye-catching shade of red. The redness extends towards the interestingly textured long petioles which connect the leaves to the plant’s main stem . Philodendron ornatum is a climber, that will like some support during its growth. Philodendron ornatum is a great plant to keep in your terrarium, while it is a moderate grower it won’t quickly grow too big for your tank.
Philodendron ornatum thrives under bright indirect light, direct sunlight can harm the plant, it can burn right through the leaves. Araflora therefore advises to keep the plant at a considerable distance from a window, or use something like blinds. Philodendron ornatum can also be kept outside (in relative shade and non-windy conditions) during warmer periods, but should be taken indoors during the cold months since it isn’t a hardy plant. Philodendron ornatum has an optimum temperature from 13°C to 27°C. Philodendron ornatum thrives in a moist but not too soggy soil, Araflora supplies the plant with a well-draining soil. When the soil does get really soggy, root rot can occur. Be sure to rotate the plant regularly in order to keep it nice from all angels.
