Paphiopedilum wardii - Orchid427
Paphiopedilum wardii - Orchid427
You will find the striking Paphiopedilum wardii deep in the forests in the border region of Myanmar and China. The orchid resembles a European lady’s slipper orchid. This is because the flower has a cup-shaped lip, which is similar to footwear. The entire flower is yellow-green with brown dots. Paphiopedilum wardii will do good in a rather cool, dark place.

Paphiopedilum wardii grows at altitudes between 1200 and 1600 m. in Myanmar and China. The plant grows there on steep cliffs that are rich in hummus. It can reach a length of 40 cm and will flower with a single flower. This flower consists of 4 petals, the bottom petal has evolved in the shape of a cup. The 2 petals on either side are pointed, just like the top leaf. This leaf distinguishes itself from the others by its whitish color with green veins. The leaves of the Paphiopedilum wardii have a white border and white dots.
Paphiopedilum wardii prefers a shady spot to properly mimic its natural growth area. The temperature is optimally around 20°C. In the winter it’s best to be 5°C lower. By mimicking the natural seasons you let the orchid come to rest. It is important that the temperature does not fall below 5°C or rise above 30°C. The orchid does not like drafts, so don’t place it near windows and doors that are regularly open. It’s advisable to plant the Paphiopedilum wardii in a mix of a lot of normal soil, sphagnum and a small amount of perlite. You can find these in our “Plant accessories” section. This mix ensures good drainage of excess moisture, while remaining slightly moist. Don’t allow soil mixture to dry out, as the Paphiopedilum wardii doesn’t react well to this.
