Mediocalcar decoratum grows in trees in the Indonesian rain forest, at altitudes ranging from 900 to 2000 m. These are mountainous regions, where little sunlight reaches trough the dens vegetation. The orchid stores water and nutrients in globular shaped 'reservoir' at the base of the stalk. Then from this reservoir four leafs appear, that are reminiscent of the blades of a helicopter. The small, bell-shaped flowers of Mediocalcar decoratum grow on small flower stalks.
To optimally simulate the natural habitat of Mediocalcar decoratum, it is necessary to place the plant in the shadow and to maintain high humidity, like in the rain forest. This can be achieved by growing other plants in the proximity, or by placing the Mediocalcar decoratum on an 'island', surrounded by water. Although the orchid blooms in winter, spring and fall, it needs water throughout the year. Maintain cool temperatures between 10 to 19 degrees Celsius at night and 5 degrees higher during the day.
