Maxillaria valenzuelana grows in nature as an epiphyte on trees or as a lithophyte on rocks, at altitudes of 100 to 1500 metres in humid montane forests. This orchid has no pseudobulbs and forms a fan of closely spaced leaves. The flowering season of Maxillaria valenzuelana can vary, and the orchid can produce flowers several times a year.
