This tiny Masdevallia is found in Ecuador and Columbia at altitudes ranging from 500 to 2100 m. Its natural habitat knows both warmer and cooler temperatures. In trees the Masdevallia herradurae flowers quickly. The orchid is easily recognized by the shape that is typical for Masdevallia orchids: three long strings, with three little petals in the center.
Masdevallia herradurae is best kept in a greenhouse. In the greenhouse the orchid can be tight up to a piece of bark or vern root. It can also be kept in an open net pot. It is important to maintain high humidity at al times, but to keep the air well circulated. The temperature should range between 14 and 24 degrees Celsius and a couple degrees higher during the day time.
