In nature Dendrobium sulawesiense is found in the warm Asian regions in altitudes ranging from 900 to 1700 m. The orchid is often called Dendrobium glomeratum, which means "tightly packed", referring to the closely bundled way the flowers are arranged. On one stem there can be 3 and up to 10 deep red flowers closely together. The thick stalks of Dendrobium sulawesiense are 25 to 50 cm long and carry fleshy dark green leaves.
Dendrobium sulawesiense thrives best when it is growing downwards with stalks hanging down. So tying the plant up on cork or attaching it to a tree fern works well for Dendrobium sulawesiense. Try to maintain a high humidity and a fairly high temperature, never plunging lower than 15 degrees Celsius. When night temperatures average between 19 and 24 degrees this orchid can develop optimally.
