Dendrobium aberrans is a small orchid from Papua New Guinea. This sympodial orchid has mainly green, shiny, stalked pseudobulbs that are growing relatively close together. On the apical side of each pseudobulb, two to three lanceolate, leathery leaves are produced. Close to the leaves, at the topside of the pseudobulbs, a flower stalk could be formed that could carry 2 to 6 flowers. The pendant flowers are around 1.5 cm long and bright white. Due to a characteristic formation of the labellum, the flower gives the impression that it consists of 8 tepals, which is never the case with orchids. The inner part of the labellum holds a subtle pink coloration. This species flowers over longer periods of time; from spring to autumn new flower stalks could emerge.

When humidity is very high, it is possible to grow this species mounted on bark or other media. Allow for optimal ventilation. The ideal potting media is an airy mix for epiphytes and could consist of medium sized bark. Place this plant in bright indirect light. Water this species regularly in the growing season which lasts normally from spring till summer. It is possible to let the medium dry out in between waterings in winter and store it in a cooler place. Fertilize this orchid weekly with a recommended dosage of specialized orchid fertilizer.
